Earlier this week I read the story of an 18 year Chinese student in Indiana who was brutally attacked while exiting a bus near her college campus. I absolutely hate racism and stories like this are especially triggering for me since my wife is ethnically Chinese and our three children are mixed race.
Asian hate crime, specifically targeted at the Chinese community, is increasing at alarming rates, but why is this happening in America? A country that was built on the strength of immigrants and a country where everyone should be treated equally and fair.
I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to not only travel to China, but live in the country for over 10 years. Spending a decade of my life in China was single handedly the best decision I ever made. It opened my eyes to a new culture, learn a new language, advance my career, and became a better world citizen as a result.
Of course, 99.999% of Americans haven’t had the same experience and their only insights into China is what is being shown on mainstream media. However, is American media a trustworthy and reliable source of information?
This graph represents an interesting phenomenon that is occurring inside America. The majority of Americans have little to no trust about the news being reported fairly and accurately, but at the same time when our media reports about China, most Americans believe it as truth. This makes me wonder an important question:
If we don’t trust America media reporting events inside of America, how can we possibly trust their reporting on China? China is a country that is incredibly complex and needs years of study and research to understand. We need insights from experts on the ground in China or those who have spent significant time inside the country to really understand what is going on. Sadly, most of the so called “China experts” who appear on American media know very little about China and this is why the American public have a false sense of reality.
While watching CNBC the past couple months, I’ve seen numerous conspiracy theories and racist comments being spewed on national television. I’ve finally had enough and decided to make a YouTube video breaking down how toxic these comments are for the future of our country.
Do I blame Americans for having a negative attitude towards China? Of course not! It’s not their fault that American media is lying to them and deceiving them about China. But this also why YouTube has become such a powerful weapon and why I started my YouTube channel three years ago. It’s important to bring balance to the situation and promote more understanding about China.
Let’s spread the word of this message and help more people understand China and most importantly learn to work with China, as the future of our world depends on the US and China finding a way to co-exist.
How US Media Uses Racism and Conspiracy Theories to Spread Hate Against China
I think politics is the cause of racism in the world because natural people relate everytime they speak even if they can't speak fluently their native languages but they can still use the opportunity to find a common ground. People love one another but politicians do not love one another
