Over the past few years there has been an interesting trend in America. Some of the world’s best scientists are choosing to leave the United States and instead return home to China to continue their experiments.
In fact this past year alone, the United States has lost over 1,400 ethnic Chinese scientists who have made the tough decision to leave America and return back to China. As an American citizen this is very concerning for me. Our country has been built by immigrants and the US has been attracting top talent from China for decades.
However the US government has made several strategic errors and less Chinese scientists, professors, and students are now willing to come to America. Many of you might know that I lived in Vancouver, Canada the past 5 years and I saw first hand how countries like Canada are benefitting from the decline of the US and China relationship.
Not only are Chinese families, but many Asian families are now choosing alternate destinations for their children to study. Vancouver, Canada already boosts one of the most impressive overseas Chinese communities and most families believe Canada is a significantly safer country than the US.
What’s even more incredible is that China’s universities have become stronger and more elite in recent years. China now has more universities ranked in the Global 2,000 than the United States. In addition, China leads the world in important fields of study, like AI, where China boosts 5 of the top 10 schools in the world! In contrast, the US doesn’t have a single school in the Top 10.
As the US China relationship continues to experience a fallout, we are going to see an intense battle over the world’s best students and professors. Will China continue to attract the world’s best talent, or can USA reverse the trend and prove that it is still the best destination for academics. I break it all down in this week’s YouTube video.
While you mention the favourable climate in Canada, in the last week, not only have the RCMP charged a local researcher with spying, but the government and the opposition are speaking about China in very hostile terms.

Scholars in the USA don't have much discrimination against each other on the basis of racial background, but the US Government dominated by bigoted politicians who are annoyed by the decline of the USA vis a vis other nations are trying everything to preserve American domination in all aspects in the globe so that those aspects of international governance that favor the USA will continue.
