The Chinese Balloon story has absolutely dominated American headlines, news stations, and TV networks the past 48 hours. It doesn’t matter if you watch CNN, Fox News, or even your local news station in your small hometown in America….this ordeal is being covered by EVERYONE and is the biggest US/China news story I’ve witnessed since I started covering the US/China relations on YouTube 3 years ago.
At the time of this publication, the US military has officially taken down the balloon over the coast of North Carolina, with the debris falling the Atlantic ocean. Did the US government overreact? Was China actually using this to spy on America? What does this mean for the future of US/China relations?
To me the entire situation seems completely absurd. Why would China use a massive balloon to spy on America? Obviously there are much better ways to spy and let’s not forget that the US and China are both actively spying on each other to begin with. In fact, a news story broke yesterday that balloons like this have been seen in US airspace before, even during President Trump’s administration. Which makes you wonder, if this has happened all along, why was this balloon situation released to the media and public?
In addition, the timing of the event seems particularly strange to me. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was schedule to arrive in Beijing tomorrow and that is perhaps the most disappointing ordeal. The US and China need more engagement. They need more dialogue, and my hope is that Blinken will reschedule the trip shortly after the dust has settled.
But this week I have a very important video for you, regarding the future of the US/China relationship. Give the events that have unfolded the last 48hrs, we need more sound diplomacy, cooler heads, and rational thinking. The former US Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson recently spoke out against the current attitude towards China in Washington DC.
Mr Paulson said the US policy towards China is NOT working. I would go one step further and say it is broken (or even failing). Americans simply don’t understand how connected the US and China are economically and that if we continue to be more and more aggressive towards China, the consequences will result in a weaker America and a weaker world.
Please watch this week’s important video.

You know Cyrus, as the spy balloon situation was inflating in the news, I had hoped you wouldn't take your normal course of excusing anything wrong that China does (or has done), but my hope was dashed after receiving your newsletter. Yes, it is absurd that China would float a spy balloon over America, but they did just that. It doesn't matter whether it was collecting weather, geo or military data - the Chinese breached American airspace and should have issued immediate apologies and acted in a manner that showed they crossed a line. How would the Chinese react if an American "weather balloon" crossed into their airspace? As usual, the Chinese didn't act in any way remorseful. In fact, the Chinese government officials on Twitter posted snide comments that China "was giving the USA a balloon, like an adult would give to a child". Now is THAT diplomacy on China's part? No. It was an inappropriate, "in your face" remark about a situation that shouldn't have ever happened. Frankly speaking, you need to step away from your keyboard and take a good look at your commentary when it comes to China and the USA. Your bias is over the top and unless your bread is being buttered with RMB makes no sense for an American to consistently excuse the poor behavior of China while slapping the States at every move. Try not to let me down next time with your commentary. Please be MORE OBJECTIVE.
